Ensuring Your Sofa Fits Perfectly in Your New Home
One of the most frustrating challenges when getting a new sofa is discovering that it doesn't quite fit through the doorway or up the stairs. To help you avoid this issue, we have prepared a concise guide to assist you in planning. Kindly follow the steps outlined below.
Before we make a start -
1. MEASURE YOUR SOFA AND ACCESS POINTS:
Sofa Measurements:
Please take note of the dimensions of your selected sofa using the boxes provided below. You can find these in the overview section on our product page, and you'll need to refer to them while taking measurements. Measure the height, width, and depth of your sofa, and remember to include any protruding parts such as armrests or legs.
- Sofa Height
- Sofa Width
- Sofa Depth
Doorways and Hallways:
Measure all doorways and hallways where you plan to place the sofa. Consider the narrowest points, such as the doorway width or any tight corners to get into the room. Remember to take note of any potential obstructions such as radiators, shelving, skirting and light fittings. As long as the widths at the narrowest point are greater than the height of your sofa, all should pass through smoothly.

Stairs
If your sofa needs to make it up some stairs, measure the width of the staircase at it’s narrowest point. Remember to take any handrails or light fixtures into account. If this distance is wider than the height of your sofa then it should fit. If you have a bannister and the sofa needs to be lifted over it, check that the distance between the bannister and the ceiling is greater than the depth of the sofa. Once at the top of the stairs, make sure there is enough clearance on the landing for the couriers to manoeuvre your sofa into the chosen room.

Lift/ Elevator?
Does your building have a lift that we’ll need to use? If so, measure the open-door height and width, and the depth of the lift to make sure it will fit inside. If the dimensions are greater than the width, height & depth of your chosen sofa, this is fine.

- Lift Width > Sofa Width?
- Lift Depth > Sofa Depth?
2. MEASURE YOUR SOFA AND ACCESS POINTS:
Turns, Corners & Obstacles: Picture the sofa’s journey from the moving truck to its final spot. Think about any tight corners, narrow hallways, or obstacles that could make it difficult to move. If you have cabinets that might block doors from fully opening, consider all these factors.
Furniture Removal: Before bringing in the new sofa, make sure there’s enough space by moving any existing furniture out of the way.
3. CHECK FOR CLEARANCE:
Ceiling Height: Ensure the sofa can be upright without hitting the ceiling in any room it will pass through.
Lighting Fixtures: Be mindful of any hanging lights or chandeliers that might obstruct the sofa’s path.

Ceiling Height > Sofa Width?
4. CONSIDER DISASSEMBLY:
Are the cushions, legs or arms removable? It would be good to explore these options if you are tight for space. You can contact our sales team for more information regarding the sofa you are interested in.
Removable Components: Most of our sofas have removable cushions and legs. You can take them off to make the sofas smaller and easier to move.
Bolt-on-Arms: If you’re still having trouble getting the furniture into your home, many of our sofa ranges have an optional Bolt-on-Arm feature. This feature allows you to remove the arms, which
significantly reduces the size of the furniture for easier access. Contact our sales team for more
information about this.
5. PLAN FOR A SMOOTH DELIVERY:
Clear the Path: Please ensure that there are no obstacles or clutter along the path where the sofa will be placed.
Professional Assistance: We use experienced couriers for a 2-man White Glove Delivery service. They will use their expertise to ensure that your furniture safely reaches its new home. Customers need to ensure that they have measured the space before delivery and that all pathways are clear.
Alternative Routes: If the main route seems too challenging, consider exploring alternative paths, such as through a different room, out a back door, or possibly through a window. If you must use these routes, it is your responsibility to ensure that the path/ window is ready and clear for the
delivery team.
By following these steps, you can reduce the risk of sofa disasters and ensure a smooth transition into it’s your new home.
